Exploring Artificial Intelligence

Student Launch Pad for the STEM Day AI Challenge Lab

Before You Start

Do not type private information into AI tools. Do not enter your full name, address, phone number, school ID, passwords, or personal details.

AI can make mistakes. Your job is to ask good questions, improve the answer, and check if the answer makes sense.

Open Your AI Tools

Text + Logic

Duck.ai / DuckDuckGo AI Chat

Use this for asking questions, creating ideas, improving prompts, explaining STEM concepts, and checking your thinking.

Drawing + Prediction

Google AutoDraw

Use this to see how machine learning can recognize rough drawings and help turn them into clearer visuals.

Open AutoDraw
Machine Learning Game

Quick, Draw!

Use this to test how a neural network guesses what you are drawing. It is fast, fun, and great for learning how AI prediction works.

Prompt Formula

Use this formula when asking AI for help:

Role + Task + Details + Format

Weak prompt: Tell me about robots.

Stronger prompt:

Act like a robotics teacher. Explain how robots use sensors in a way a 7th grader can understand. Give me 3 examples and one fun challenge.

AI Challenge Sprint

Complete at least 4 challenges. Try one easy, one prompt engineering challenge, one creative challenge, and one thinking challenge.

Level 1: Explain AI Simply

Tool: Duck.ai | Target Time: 3-4 min

Prompt/Mission

Explain artificial intelligence like I am in 6th grade. Use one real-life example and one sentence that starts with “AI is not magic because…”
Finish: Write your favorite sentence on your worksheet.

Level 1: Ask a STEM Question

Tool: Duck.ai | Target Time: 3-4 min

Prompt/Mission

Answer this STEM question in a simple way: Why does a rocket need so much force to launch?
Finish: Circle whether the answer made sense: yes, no, or needs checking.

Level 2: Fix the Bad Prompt

Tool: Duck.ai | Target Time: 4 min

Prompt/Mission

Weak prompt: Write about science. Improve it using Role + Task + Details + Format.
Finish: Write your improved prompt.

Level 2: Make It Better

Tool: Duck.ai | Target Time: 4 min

Prompt/Mission

Give me 5 ideas for a STEM project about clean energy. Then ask: Make idea #___ easier, cheaper, and possible to complete in one weekend.
Finish: Choose the best idea and explain why.

Level 3: STEM Superhero

Tool: Duck.ai + Craiyon/AutoDraw | Target Time: 5 min

Prompt/Mission

Create a STEM superhero who uses science, technology, engineering, or math to solve community problems. Give the superhero a name, power, weakness, and mission.
Finish: Create a mini character card or image prompt.

Level 3: Design the Future

Tool: Duck.ai + Craiyon/AutoDraw | Target Time: 5 min

Prompt/Mission

Help me design a futuristic invention that could help students, families, or communities. Include the invention name, what problem it solves, how it works, and who would use it.
Finish: Write the invention name and one-sentence pitch.

Level 4: AI Fact Checker

Tool: Duck.ai | Target Time: 5 min

Prompt/Mission

Give me 3 facts about Mars. For each fact, tell me how I could verify if it is true.
Finish: Mark one fact: seems true, needs checking, or might be wrong.

Level 4: Human vs. AI

Tool: Duck.ai | Target Time: 5 min

Prompt/Mission

Why do humans still need creativity if AI can generate ideas?
Finish: Write: I agree because… I disagree because… My opinion is…

Boss Level: AI Innovator

Tool: Duck.ai + optional image tool | Target Time: 6 min

Prompt/Mission

Act like an innovation coach. Help me create a simple business, app, invention, or STEM project for students my age. Include a name, audience, problem, solution, and 30-second pitch.
Finish: Prepare a 30-second pitch.

Boss Level: AI Game Designer

Tool: Duck.ai | Target Time: 6 min

Prompt/Mission

Help me create a new educational game that teaches students about artificial intelligence. Include the game name, rules, goal, materials needed, and how someone wins. Make it playable in 10 minutes with only paper, pencils, and a timer.
Finish: Write the game name and how to win.

Exit Ticket

Before you leave, be ready to answer:

  1. One thing AI is good at is…
  2. One thing humans still need to do is…
  3. One prompt tip I learned is…
  4. One thing I created today was…
