Course Description:

Dive into the exciting world of underwater technology with our 4-month FIRST® LEGO® League course for the 2024-2025 season! This year’s theme explores the innovative ways robotics and technology are revolutionizing underwater exploration and engineering.

This course is designed to immerse participants in the world of underwater technology through the lens of the 2024-2025 FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge, SUBMERGEDSM. By combining hands-on robotics, engineering principles, and problem-solving activities, learners will tackle real-world challenges related to ocean exploration. The course emphasizes teamwork, creativity, and persistence while developing critical STEM skills. Participants will:

  • Build and program LEGO® robots to complete underwater-themed missions.
  • Research and design an innovative solution to a pressing ocean-related problem.
  • Develop and practice skills for presenting their ideas and solutions in a competition setting.
  • Learn and demonstrate FIRST® Core Values like Gracious Professionalism® and Coopertition®.

Children must be accompanied by an adult age 18 years or older.


Participants will:

  • Collaborate in teams to design, build, and program LEGO® robots to tackle real-world underwater challenges.
  • Take STEM-focused field trips to explore underwater technology in action, including visits to marine research centers, aquariums, and engineering facilities.
  • Engage in career exploration activities, learning about pathways in marine robotics, oceanography, and underwater engineering.

Timing:

New Dates Announced!

The course kicks off on Friday, January 24, 2025 @ 5PM, and runs on Saturdays starting January 25, 2025 – May 31, 2025. Students will develop teamwork, critical thinking, and technical skills as they create their final projects, which will be showcased during a celebratory Closing Ceremony and Showcase.

Classes start 10:00 am ET and typically end at 1:00 pm ET. Field Trip days typically end at 3:00 pm ET.

No classes will be held February 22, 2025, March 22, 2025, and March 29, 2025.

The Closing Ceremony and Showcase will be held May 31, 2025 and typically starts late afternoon. Exact start/end times TBD.

Classes may be cancelled due to building closings and inclement weather. Make up days will be provided.
